I would like to address the issue as to why some people are under the impression that a square jaw is masculine and I will simply discuss why I was wondering if it is a masculine trait that I have.

My mother is not a square jawed woman who is also tall but of a slightly more delicate skeletal built both facially and anatomically. I inherited all of my father's facial features, including the square jaw. Aside from the fact that we are from 2 different sexes, before I began coloring my hair and wearing makeup, we were indistinguishable. People often commented that I am a carbon copy of him, only female, which flattered me, but at the same time, made me question if I actually look feminine or not.

This same concern may also linger in the minds of many women who have inherited their square jaws from their male parent rather than the female. The administrator of this site explained that male square jaws and female square jaws are quite different, but both can add to the beauty of both sexes.

I began to observe some pictures of my father when he was around my age and I observed something interesting after the administrator made me aware of this. MY father and I do have the same features, but at the same time, his are undeniably more masculine in terms of contouring, width and length, and the amount of facial fat that he has. I began to understand that square jaws in males look different than in females. My father's square jaw is more bulky than mine upon further observation and he also lacked upper cheek flesh and had thinner lips and a harder nose. I have a much more delicate square jaw as well as more rounded cheeks atop pronounced cheek bones on longer more delicate neck as well as small thin wrists.

I believe that similar features among close family members will manifest themselves differently depending on the sex of each person.

It would be interesting if I can get other viewpoints on how female square jaws and male square jaws vary in terms of how they look among family members who share the same genes. Some scientific data would be awesome to in exploring this subject. Maybe this will combat the notion that some people have about women who look like their father.
